SCRANTON -- Runners and walkers hit the Lackawanna Heritage Trail to help out some four-legged friends in Scranton.

The third Annual Furry Friends 5K kicked off at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Money raised at the event benefits the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter near Clarks Summit.

Some folks even brought their own furry friend along for the walk.

"Events like this are so important for us. We really appreciate all the community support we get," said Jess Farrell griffin pond public relations.

Organizers say about 200 people took part in Saturday's fundraiser in Scranton.
