TANNERSVILLE -- A slow start to spring has left snow-covered slopes in the Poconos.

At Camelback Mountain Resort, guests were more than excited to jump on the lifts and enjoy a few runs downhill in late March.

"I was not only surprised, I was excited to see that they have almost four feet of base here on the mountain this late in March," said Chris Linn of Philadelphia.

"We've had some awesome conditions. We've had tons of snow early in the season. It was super cold so we were able to make a lot of snow have a great base, and it's going to allow us to have spring skiing for another two weeks," said Dru Brooks of Camelback Mountain Resort.

That's right, two more weeks of skiing, making this the longest season ever if everything goes according to plan.

The idea behind it was to enjoy skiing in and out of Camelback's new indoor waterpark off the slopes in Tannersville.

But now, that's going to have to wait.

"Due to the winter being so cold and some of the things we've run into, the opening date was pushed back a little bit. So we aren't going to be able to line it up this year," said Brooks.

No matter how much of the white stuff is still on the ground after April 12, the ski slopes are closed. Camelback officials say they have to get ready for summer.

"We need to turn this beautiful white backdrop into white water in about a month and a half, so if we go much further into the spring, it really doesn't give us enough time to get Camelbeach up and running," said Brooks.

Until the time for that major transformation, skiers like Larry Gruen of Gettysburg say they'll be enjoying the snow as long as the longest season allows.

"I think it's been a great season, long year, good for the industry, happy to be here enjoying the day," said Gruen.

Camelback's Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark is now scheduled to open in late April.
