HANOVER TOWNSHIP -- Sherry Souchick is grieving the loss of her dog, Cheyenne. She first heard Cheyenne was struck and killed by a car after returning home over the weekend from an out-of-state trip.

“We were looking for her because she wasn't out by the gate, which she usually greets us,” Souchick.

Souchick says she found a hole in her backyard of her home near Nanticoke where Cheyenne stayed and believes Cheyenne escaped.

The yard is also where the family's other dog, Cody, would play with his pal Cheyenne for years. But no longer.

"He's out there wondering, looking for her, because he knows she's gone. They've been in each other's life their whole life," Souchick said.

Cheyenne didn't have a collar when she was found by Linda Kotch on Hanover Street. Authorities located Souchick because Cheyenne had a microchip inside her. On Monday, Kotch searched for her collar.

“You don't do this to an animal. You don't throw them on the side of the road. This was someone's pet and they are heartbroken over it,” Kotch said.

The driver who hit Cheyenne turned himself over to Hanover Township Police. He's not facing charges, but now the county animal control officer is investigating whether the individual who had Cheyenne in his vehicle should. Souchick says she wants to hold who's ever responsible accountable.

“An animal doesn't have a voice like we do,” Souchick says. “I want justice done to whoever did this to this dog. She did not deserve that. She did not deserve it.”
