SCRANTON -- Crews were on the scene of a smoky fire on Church Avenue in the Scranton's north side for most of the afternoon Sunday.

The assistant fire chief said the fire caused a lot of damage to the place.

Officials say no one was home when flames broke out around 1 p.m., but according to the assistant chief, firefighters didn't know that at the time. No one was hurt battling that fire.

"There was the job of getting a hold of that fire, making sure the home was searched, and trying to do it safely with the manpower we have," said Scranton Fire Department Assistant Chief Jim Floryshak.

Investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire.
