Transitioning To Spring With Construction

LUZERNE COUNTY -- Spring may be starting with a snowy day, but most people have been looking forward to the warmer weather spring usually brings, especially constructions crews.

With winter ending, many in Luzerne County will replace driving in the snow with driving around construction cones.

“It`s either you`re avoiding Mother Nature or you`re avoiding construction workers. If it`s not one thing it`s another,” said Jason Iacona of Wilkes-Barre.

While some may not be too happy with crews working throughout Luzerne County, many construction crews say they have to maximize this time of year.

"We just have to take advantage of the seasons, as much of our paving work and concrete work that we can get done. It's so weather dependent because of the materials, so as soon as we can get started we get going," said Adam Gober with Kingston’s Department of Public Works.

Kingston's Department of Public Works closed south bound lanes on Wyoming Avenue to repair a storm water pump. They`ll soon be working on many more projects.

"In the upcoming weeks we are going to be renovating two of our parks, there's a lot of excavation work that goes in with that as well. Paving projects, we have a lot of concrete projects going on, and curb restoration with some sidewalks." Gober said.

Utility companies like PPL Electric are taking advantage of the warmer weather by starting a 5 year and $5.7 billion infrastructure improvement project.

“It includes all kinds of infrastructure improvements, line replacements, and upgrades,” said Paul Canevari with PPL

Part of Public Square in Wilkes-Barre is down to one lane as PPL crews replace an old transformer, included in the project.

Both PPL Electric and Kingston`s DPW say they have crews out all year, but their crews are taking advantage of the warmer weather to come to get more done.
