LOCK HAVEN -- Lock Haven University is updating its campus. Three buildings will be demolished this summer to make room for a new, greener space.

Old science labs on the second floor of Ulmer Hall have been emptied out on the campus.

While it's empty now, Lock Haven officials say pretty soon that will change.

"We're going to put a new addition on the front and giving it a new identity."

Keith Roush is the director of facilities at Lock Haven. He showed us what part of the campus should look like by this fall as the university works on a plan to remodel Ulmer Hall and demolish three other buildings on campus.

"Russell Hall will be coming down and we will be making a large commons area out of the space where the Russell was," Roush said.

University officials say they are continually upgrading their campus with projects such as adding a new residence hall. Now that this has been open for nearly two years they are ready to start their next big project.

"There's no real identity here on the campus and by putting a commons area in the center of the campus, it gives the students a space to go and it gives a better sense of identity to the entire university," said Roush.

"It's a great idea, actually, if they tear it down to have all the green space so that people in the spring time they can play ultimate Frisbee. They can play flag football," said sophomore Zach Kembel.

A former dormitory called Russell Hall is in the middle of campus. It will be torn down.

"I think it's sort of an eyesore that it's there and it's empty and not being used," Kembel said.

"I really do want to get my money's worth. I'm paying for college all by myself so I think it's just a beautiful campus in general, renovations or not," said sophomore Alexia Perrin.

Lock Haven University officials say the entire $6 million project should be complete by the fall of 2016.
