SCRANTON -- Scranton firefighters are trying to give back to the community they serve.

Firefighters are asking people to drop off food items at any of the city's firehouses through Saturday.

And on Sunday, they'll drop off donations at St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen in Scranton.

Fire chief Pat DeSarno said the kitchen struggles to keep shelves stocked this time of year.

"I said how about we use the fire houses as drop off points? Because we're spread throughout the city which will help make it a little more convenient for people to help us and we're open 24/7," DeSarno said.

Organizers tell us they hope to make this food drive an annual event.
