CARBONDALE -- Police in Lackawanna County have made another arrest in a scam.

Carbondale cops say a couple told elaborate lies to defraud a family friend out of tens of thousands of dollars!

“You never threatened to kill anybody?”

“No I did not, no I didn`t, no I didn`t and I`m going to prove that.”

Zachery Everitt maintained he did nothing wrong as he was led away by Carbondale police.

Officers charged Everitt for helping his girlfriend, Ashley Sobel, bilk a couple out of more than $26,000 last September.

Sobel was arrested for the crime last week.

Their victim did not want to show her face on camera and asked we identify her only as Kathy.

Kathy says Ashley told her she had a won the lottery in NY State but needed money right away.

Ashley said if Kathy loaned her money, she would pay her back once she cashed the ticket.

“She needed money because she had cancer and she`d show me the bandage on her arm and she`d show me the clumps of hair that she would pull out saying she was dying,” said Kathy.

Kathy says Ashley showed her the winning ticket and Ashley even called the NY State Lottery to confirm to Kathy the ticket was good.

Kathy says she had her suspicions but wanted to help.

“I had told her when this whole thing started, I said Ashley if this is a scam, you`re going to go to jail, I can`t put up with this, I don`t have the money to spare to keep loaning her and loaning her, I need to get the money back,” said Kathy.

Police charged Ashley`s boyfriend Zachery with theft by deception and witness intimidation, saying he made threats on his Facebook that he would kill anyone who snitched on him.

Investigators say he also threatened to break Kathy's legs if she went to police.

“I didn`t say none of that, I tried to place a police report that somebody tried to message me on Facebook, you can look up Facebook records, my name is Zachery Everitt, look it up,” Everitt said as he was put into the police cruiser.

Carbondale police say this investigation is far from over and expect to make more arrests in this case.
