SCRANTON -- Folks got a free pass to some museums in the state on Sunday all thanks to the deal for land here in the "new world" that eventually became Pennsylvania.

Newswatch 16 stopped by the Anthracite Heritage Museum in Scranton to mark Charter Day.

Charter Day commemorates when King Charles II granted the piece of land to William Penn more than 300 years ago.

There was a game for families and children celebrating the state's history, and a film program.

"I've been a lifelong Pennsylvanian. I appreciate the varied history of P.A. and this represents an important part of our history," said Chester Kulesa, site administrator.

A new exhibit featuring the women of World War II also opened Sunday at the museum in Scranton.
