LEWISBURG -- It snowed again in Lewisburg, so some people spent the day shoveling. But not everybody! Some had thoughts of spring and were first in line to get ice cream as the Lewisburg Freez opened for the season.

"We were here for the first day no matter what," Jim Bergen said. "Even though it was snowing this morning."

"It is cold out but this is a tradition so that's why we're here," Robert Sauers said.

There was a line of seven people waiting for The Freez to open, so the ice cream shop opened early.

"We're forcing spring. Spring has to come now because, you know, we're eating ice cream," Doug Kifolo said.

This year's opening day brought new meaning to the term "snow cone." There was a steady stream of people throughout the day, including some college students who did not care about the snow on the ground.

"Yeah, but it's The Freez. We're here to eat ice cream. It's cold outside but we'll live," Mark Small said.

"It's our last opening day at The Freez since all three of us are seniors at Bucknell. So we're going to make the most of it," Neale Gadde said.

The owners say they were locked into this date so they had to open whether it was snowing or not. That just meant people ate their ice cream with gloves on.

"Have a good chocolate Pepsi milkshake and it's worth coming down no matter what the weather," Sauers said.

"We've been doing this for 50 years," Bergen said.

This just proves a little snow can't hold people back from enjoying the treat they've been waiting for all winter.
