CLINTON TOWNSHIP -- A teenage girl from Union County is dead after a crash in Lycoming County.

Officials said Dionna Satteson, 16, from Allenwood crashed after hitting ice on Brouse Road near Montgomery around 7:30 p.m. Monday. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lycoming County coroner. Two passengers were not seriously hurt.

Montgomery Area School District says 40 percent of high school students didn't come to school on Tuesday. Administrators aren't blaming it on the weather. They think students were just too upset over the deadly crash to make it to class.

Some Montgomery Area School District students, like junior Sammi Harer were relieved that bad weather closed school early. She says she was too upset to do any school work.

"My friend Alyssa and I just made posters and remembered her with our basketball coach. Everyone just missed her."

Officials say the teen was driving her friend's SUV when she lost control on the slippery road and crashed on Brouse Road near Montgomery.

"Middle of winter, road can be better. You know, it's a young driver, car she may not be familiar with. I don't know how you rationalize it. You can't," said Clinton Township Fire Chief Todd Winder.

For Chief Winder, this call was especially difficult.

"The one girl grabbed me and said the other girls name and then it hit me that who was even standing in front of me and that I know these kids," he recalled.

There are already signs of support at Montgomery Junior/Senior High School. Ribbons made out of Dionna's favorite colors are tied up. Some of her friends say they will remember her as a star on and off the court.

"She was gorgeous even though she didn't think so, but she brought a smile to everybody's face."

"Gorgeous big smile, great leader and a great kid," said Dionna's basketball coach Chris Ulrich.

Ulrich says the star athlete and all-around good person won't soon be forgotten.

"I just hope and pray that we find the strength and courage to battle on."

State troopers are investigating the crash but say Dionna was not violating any teen driving regulations.

Montgomery Area School district says they will have counselors available all week for students in need.
