SCRANTON -- It was a sad day for the Hollywood community and sci-fi lovers all around who admired Leonard Nimoy. The news of his passing upset many people in our area.

Nimoy was not only a star on television and movies, you can find his beloved "Mr. Spock " in the comics books like those we found at "Comics on the Green" in Scranton.

"He's a legend. I mean when you think of science fiction or even famous stars associated with sci-fi, it's Leonard Nimoy. He's right at the top of the list," said owner David Romeo.

Nimoy passed away at age 83 of lung disease.

Some of his fans in our area say his death is a huge loss to the Star Trek community.

"Leonard Nimoy was a catalyst and his character will live on forever."

Nicholas Malasto of Wilkes-Barre says he once had a run-in with Nimoy about eight years back. He saw Nimoy signing autographs and taking pictures at a convention and while he didn't wait to rub elbows with the first officer of Starship Enterprise, he says he's happy Nimoy remained a big part of the franchise.

"It was great to see him in his role again with the newer Star Trek. It almost seemed more believable because there was an older and younger version," Malasto said.

"He was just such a beloved character and he will be very sorely missed," Romeo added.

A lot of people we spoke to also said even if you weren't a fan of Star Trek, you always knew the name Mr. Spock and what he was associated with, so he will be very much missed.
