MOOSIC -- This Sunday night will be the biggest night of the year for Hollywood.

Many folks spent Friday night at the movies, trying to catch some of the nominees on the big screen.

Cinemark in Moosic was a packed house as moviegoers braved the bitter cold, hoping to brush up on some Oscar knowledge just days before the 87th Annual Academy Awards.

Many were here to see the box-office mega-hit "American Sniper," which is up for Best Movie and Best Actor for star Bradley Cooper.

“His role in "American Sniper" was one of the most intense things I've ever seen anyone do on screen. I really hope he wins,” said Rev. Dan Fitz-Simmons from Wilkes-Barre.

“There's a lot of publicity around the movie and there's a lot good actors in it, so I think there's a chance,” said George Matalenas from Dupont.

Others were here to watch Best Actress nominee Julianne Moore in her role in “Still Alice."

“I thought she was absolutely fabulous. She did a wonderful job, a great portrayal,” said Mary Lou Kidd from Paupack.

“I thought her performance was phenomenal. It was very heart-rending, let's put it that way,” said Fr. William Marshall from Wilkes-Barre.

“She's definitely in the top for the female, I believe, of all the ones we've seen,” said Sue Gucci from Paupack.

“After seeing this movie, I think she's a shoo-in to get it, personally. Julianne Moore was wonderful, she really was,” said Carol Darcy from Clarks Green.

And on the big night, if you want to live like a movie star, at Posh Restaurant in Scranton, employees are throwing a viewing party, complete with an Oscar-themed menu.

There's no cover charge; only what you spend on food and drink.

“We put on a red carpet, people can get dressed up, or they don't have to get dressed up. We've got ballots so they can fill it out, and whoever wins different things, wins prizes throughout the night, and then we have one grand prize winner at the end of the night,” said Joshua Mast, co-owner of Posh.

The Academy awards can be seen on Sunday at 8 p.m. on WNEP-TV.
