RUSH TOWNSHIP -- The ice cream business isn't exactly booming during the winter months, but a dairy bar and grill near Tamaqua is open anyway.

Skipper Dippers along Route 309 is known for its ice cream, but the place also serves up warm food to keep in business when it's freezing out.

"In the summer, we do way more ice cream than we do food, but in the winter time we have to kind of flip flop things," said Joe Pilla, the owner of Skipper Dippers.

This sign outside reads that it's never too cold for ice cream but the snow-covered benches and the closed walk-up window prove, it may be a little too cold to eat the stuff outside.

Alyssa Casler works at Skipper Dippers and said, "Some people would get it to go, I wouldn't want to go out there in the cold with it!"

Jim Hart of Foglesville said, "We're cold enough without putting something cold inside you right?"

But negative wind chills or not, some people are still buying the frozen treat!

"People come from like seven in the morning like truckers come and they get ice cream, they also get it to go," said Casler.

Newswatch 16 was there when one of those truckers, Richard Harris of Clearfield, came in and got his to-go lunch.

"A strawberry milkshake. You like it in the cold weather? Yes I do. Anytime of the year? Anytime of the year."

Employees at Skipper Dippers are looking forward to March 15th.

That's when the crew goes into summer mode, ice cream and all.
