UPDATE -- Cinemark said they reopened at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

MOOSIC -- Water problems had two theater complexes in Lackawanna County shut down.

Around noon Monday, fire crews arrived on the scene after a pipe broke inside the Cinemark Theater complex.

The theater was evacuated and customers who showed up at the complex in Moosic were turned away.

Firefighters told Newswatch 16 the pipe likely broke because of the extreme low temperatures.

The broken pipe flooded the ticket counter and other areas in the theater.

"We were just sitting, watching the movie and lights started going off and we thought it was part of the movie. Then the announcement came that we had to leave the building, and when we were walking out, the sprinkler system was going off and everything," said Tara Tomczak of Thornhurst.

On Cinemark's website there are no showtimes scheduled Monday and they said they would be closed until the pipe is fixed.

And it was a similar situation at the Regal Theatre complex in Dickson City.

The parking lot was empty and customers were turned away after some sort of water problem was reported at the theater along Commerce Boulevard.

While management didn't say what the issue was, customers said they were told it was a water pipe or main broken inside the building.

Workers at the theater said the Regal complex reopened late Monday afternoon and they were selling tickets.

We spoke with quite a few people who first went to Cinemark and then came to Dickson City, only to find both theaters closed this Presidents Day because of water issues.

"Today's my day off, so we were going to come see the movie. We went to the other one, Cinemark, and they're closed. They told us they had a water main, too, so then we came here and I said, 'There has to be something wrong,'" said Linda Werner of Scranton.

"I thought it was a little disappointing, to come to the movies on a day off school and not be able to go to the movies because they just didn't put it on the website, thought they'd just be a little more professional," said Michael Mendola of Clarks Summit.

Presidents Day is a popular day to go to the movies because many students have the day off from school and some people have the day off from work.

"I'm disappointed, very, very disappointed. I think it's terrible. We really wanted to see a movie, you know. It was our day. We wanted to enjoy the day. Nothing going on now. Now what do we do?" Betty Ann Kraft of Scranton said.

One woman told us she is going to Wilkes-Barre so she can see a movie in the theater there.

The Regal website does not explain why the complex was closed.
