Just being outside for a few minutes is painful in this kind of weather.

A cold morning was even colder for some workers fixing a broken water main along Arnold Avenue in Scranton's east mountain section. The workers were too busy to talk. Their boss showed his admiration.

"It's days like this you'd like to have a field job," said Bob Mullery. "Hats off to those guys right behind me there."

Nay Aug Park in Scranton is usually a busy place in the morning, with people taking their morning walks, but not on this day. The park was exceptionally quiet. Employees and visitors to the nearby Geisinger -Community Medical Center park there, and that made shuttle bus driver Joanne Stevens one of the most popular people in town.

"They can't get on here fast enough. They're enjoying the ride today. Sometimes, they walk, a few of them, but not today. I'm back and forth as fast as I can."

A lot of schools in our area like Dunmore, were supposed to be closed for the Presidents Day holiday, but with the cold and snow we've already had this winter, administration chose to use this as a make-up day.

So, where are the students? Mother Nature always has the upper hand. It was so cold this morning that Dunmore issued a two-hour delay.

Just down the road at Marywood University, things were running on time. Kent Truslow was on his way to class. He's from Charlotte, North Carolina and not used to Pennsylvania's occasionally brutal winters.

"It's a little cold. You usually don't see the negatives in Charlotte," Truslow said.

Truslow admits he's under-dressed for below-zero weather, and yes, that North Carolinian does own a winter coat, that he's sorry was left back in his apartment.
