LEWISBURG -- Police in Lewisburg are looking for whoever abandoned a dog outside in a parking lot in Union County over the weekend.

The lovable dog named Max has a warm bed and gets plenty of love and attention from volunteers at Haven to Home, a dog shelter in Milton.

"He seems to be very nice and very loving and a happy boy, actually."

Buffalo Regional Valley Police found Max tied to a railing and alone over the weekend in Lewisburg. Officials say the dog was outside for hours in the cold.

"This is not right. I mean, it was Saturday. Look how cold and windy it was."

Now police are looking to find who may have abandoned the dog.

"It's the worst of humanity."

Haven to Home volunteer Jessica Zeller was there with police. She helped rescue Max.

"It was very cold. I mean, I was hats, gloves, etc. and, I mean, there he was. He is a short-coated dog."

Max was found tied to a railing in Lewisburg. Volunteers who picked Max up say they are glad people who saw the dog phoned in for help.

"I was here for at least two hours working and the dog just barked and barked and barked."

Some neighbors who heard Max barking called police.

"Now knowing that the dog was just tied up there and abandoned, I wish that I would have looked out the window a little bit before I think I would have seen who it was."

Haven to Help now hopes to find Max a new home.

"He's lovely, he's great. He's going to make a great pal for somebody."

"It was too cold to have a dog tied up, that's for sure."

Police in Lewisburg are looking to find who may have left Max outside in the cold this weekend.
