PITTSTON -- If you like seafood and you live in northeastern Pennsylvania there's a good chance you've been to a Cooper's Seafood Restaurant.

"I like the fact that you can get fresh seafood at any time," Regina Mattei said.

The family owned restaurant came to Pittston in 1992.

Owners tell Newswatch 16 having this location and the one in Scranton has been very time-consuming.

The owners are looking for the right buyer to take over the property.

"It's a shame that if they are being sold because they are one of the well-known seafood restaurants around here," Patricia Dale of West Pittston said.

People that live in the Pittston area hope whoever buys the property keeps the restaurant the same.

Regina Mattei has lived in Pittston her entire life. She says once the Cooper family leaves, it will be a big loss to the community.

"I hope whoever buys Cooper's continues with the tradition that has been established. Consistently good seafood. It attracts people from all over, it's excellent," Mattei said.

City officials tell Newswatch 16 they're sad to hear the restaurant is for sale.

"We're disappointed to hear that the Cooper family may be leaving the city, but certainly hopeful and optimistic that new things and more opportunities are in the future for that property," Joe Moskovitz, Pittston city administrator said.

Owners of the restaurant tell Newswatch 16 there have been no potential buyers so far.

In the meantime, the restaurant in Pittston will stay open and its more than 60 employees will still have a job.

The owners tell Newswatch 16 they will continue business at the restaurant until the right buyer comes along.

The Cooper's location in Scranton is not up for sale.
