WILKES-BARRE -- Veterans Appreciation Day at Wilkes University meant any veteran could get into Saturday's men's and women's basketball games for free.

Team members paid tribute to those who served by wearing special camouflage shirts.

Those shirts were also available for sale. Money raised benefits the Sandrino Plutino Military Appreciation Initiative, funding veterans initiatives at Wilkes University. The group is named for a Wilkes grad who was killed by enemy fire in Afghanistan in 2011.

"Wilkes is a special place for veterans. Getting them an opportunity to get a profession, get their degree, go off into the world, and Wilkes is a great place to set them up for success and making their dreams come true," said Mark Caster, veterans counselor at Wilkes University.

Wilkes took on Misericordia University in the matinee that was dedicated to veterans.
