WILKES-BARRE -- There was so much snow in downtown Wilkes-Barre, they used a pickup truck and a plow to clean the sidewalk and, on another part of the square, a street sweeper did the trick.

Consider Mike Klima's morning. He drove in the snow from Hawley to pick up a delivery truck in the Wyoming Valley, to take supplies to a donut shop. Driving the truck was hard enough, and maneuvering the hand truck was no picnic.

"It's not easy when nothing is plowed or shoveled. It takes a little longer, but you gotta do what you gotta do," Klima said.

The snow really didn't disrupt early morning patterns on the square. Plow trucks kept the streets open.

You will see the snow plows. You will see snow throwers. You will see all those delivery people on the square, but one thing you won't see, at least before nine o'clock: county buses.

Martz buses were running, but LCTA decided no runs before 9 a.m.

George Lovriniz was in the intermodal transportation center on South Washington Street waiting for a bus to Hazleton that never came. He called his boss at a yarn factory.

"They'll give you a snow day or if you want, you can use your personal day there, you know, if you want to," Lovriniz said.

He took the personal day.

Marie George spent a little time out on Public Square. She wasn't alone. Cole the dog wanted his morning walk.

"He loves the snow. He's a good dog; he's a springer spaniel, four years old. He loves the snow," George said. "I love it, too."

And Marie adds she's a former New Englander, so morning walks through the snow are nothing new.
