HARRISBURG -- Pennsylvania Treasurer Rob McCord apologized to the people of Pennsylvania Friday afternoon, saying he will resign immediately as he pleads guilty to corruption charges.

McCord said Thursday he was resigning in two weeks to join the private sector. That was before word leaked that he was under federal investigation.

On Friday, his lawyers issued a statement saying he will plead guilty to charges that he pressured campaign donors to give money or make an enemy of the state treasurer.

McCord, a Democrat, released a video statement of his resignation, saying in part, "I essentially said that the potential contributors (to my campaign) should not risk making an enemy of the state treasurer. Clearly, that was wrong; I was wrong. It was a mistake. I stand ready to pay the price for that mistake."
