WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP -- Frail, hunched over, and barely able to walk on his own, a pit-bull terrier mix is under special care at a vet’s office in the Williamsport area.

“If whoever didn't find him when they did he wouldn't have made it."

The puppy that has been named Ollie was found on the side of this road miles from help here near Elimsport. Ollie was alone and shivering.

“Oh, my God, I was heartbroken, because I love dogs. I always have. I just couldn't understand how somebody could leave a dog in the condition he was," said Corporal Carl Finnerty.

South Williamsport Police Corporal Carl Finnerty doesn't usually drive to work this way during the winter.

"You could see our footprints from standing where he was, he was right in this area," said Cpl. Finnerty.

Luckily this past Wednesday he did.

“I didn't realize the condition he was in until I walked up on him. So emaciated he was. He could barely stand up. He was stumbling around when he did stand up,” said Cpl. Finnerty.

Now that Ollie is safe and on his way to recovery, the SPCA wants to track down and charge whoever abandoned and neglected the dog.

“Yea this is pretty brutal for an animal to leave one out here that person that did that should have their head checked.”

In just after 24 hours, the vets say he is looking and acting a lot better. They hope in a month he will be ready for his forever home.

"My girlfriend and I are looking to adopt him when he is well enough to be adopted. So, I hope so, yea we want him to be in a safe place where he never has to go through that again,” said Cpl. Finnerty.

“Just overnight him being here walking up and alert and eating, it's just really, he's made a good turn around,” said Lara Lantry, veterinary technician.

Since he's been getting care Ollie has put on about five pounds which is a good sign. Lycoming County SPCA and South Williamsport police are reaching out using social media to help track down whoever abandoned Ollie. They are asking anyone who has information about the dog to contact the Lycoming County SPCA at 570-322-4646.
