United Water Pennsylvania is asking the state to approve a rate hike for customers in its service areas.
The company said the hike would cost the average residential customer about $9 a month.
United Water Pennsylvania officials cited $91 million in improvements to their systems — including replacing pipes, computer systems, and a new water treatment facility — as reasons for the rate hike request.
The company operates water systems in eight counties including Columbia, Luzerne, Schuylkill, and Wyoming.
This is the first overall rate increase requested by United Water since 2011.
If approved, the requested increase would likely take effect in late 2015.
