MUNCY -- The Muncy School District is putting parents and students on high alert after two students from Myers Elementary reported a man tried to lure them into his van.

The superintendent says the two students said they were walking home from school around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Lincoln and South Washington Streets in the borough when that van pulled up.

They told school officials the man tried two separate times to get them into the vehicle.

For parents, this is alarming.

“My kids are little so they don`t walk home, but it`s very scary in this little town. I just couldn`t believe when it happened,” said parent Ann Harner.

“We`re definitely going to keep an eye out for them,” said parent Stephanie Neuer. “And watch them walk to school and just definitely keep base with them. They all have cell phones so when they`re going to school they`ll have their cell phones on.”

The district says the man was reported to be driving a black large-sized work van with a large scratch on the driver`s side.

The driver was described as a white, heavy-set male with short cut blonde hair and no facial hair.

Muncy borough police are investigating the report.

Lois Harvey lives on the street where the children say they were approached. She said she always tries to keep an eye out.

"A lot of times if little kids are walking by alone I`ll watch them clear down to the corner where they turn to go to the elementary," said Harvey.

Students say they know what to do if approached by a stranger.

"Call someone or just run away or say, 'No, go away,'" said Grace Kaiser, a sixth grader at Myers.

The superintendent says families were contacted about this incident.

The district is asking anyone with information related to this to call police.
