WILKES-BARRE -- The prosecution rested its case Thursday against Coughlin High School wrestling coach Stephen Stahl.

Stahl is accused of having a sexual relationship with a student more than a decade ago.

The defense began trying to poke holes in that accusation. Several defense witness testified in support of Stahl.

He's accused of having a year-long sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female student 10 years ago.

Those witnesses included Coughlin High School teachers and administrators and the school's former high school principal Frank Michaels.

"Even if weren't subpoenaed I was asked to come and testify, and being the principal that was on duty during the time of these allegations, that I do have a responsibility to come and testify," Michaels said.

Michaels testified in Luzerne County Court that he never saw any inappropriate behavior or heard rumors of that kind of behavior between Stephen Stahl and any student.

Michaels also told jurors that he did not believe Stahl was capable of doing what prosecutors allege.

Stahl's defense attorney told Newswatch 16 that Stahl will take the stand in his own defense.
