MUNCY -- Officials had to find a new temporary home for the 208 inmates who were housed in the Northumberland County Prison after a fire at the prison Wednesday.
The female inmates have been moved here to SCI Muncy in Lycoming County. It's a state facility that typically houses medium to maximum-security female prisoners.
The male inmates have been moved south to the state facility in Coal Township.
Officials with the state prison system aren't saying much at this time because it's still a delicate situation securely moving inmates from one location to another.
Buses have been coming and going helping with the move.
Earlier in the day, when the Northumberland County Prison was first evacuated, several inmates were moved to a nearby church while armed guards monitored their safe transport.
State corrections representatives say they have prepared for incidents just like this one and are equipped to handle an influx of inmates.
