There is some good news for folks looking to 'go green' and save some green if you are in the market for a new car.

The Department of Environmental Protection [DEP] has extended the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Rebate Program on several hybrid vehicles.

A $2,000 rebate is up for grabs for anyone looking to buy a large battery system plug in hybrid electric and battery electric cars, including Honda, Chevy, Ford, Nissan and Toyota vehicles.

At the Toyota Scion of Scranton, Newswatch 16 found out most of the cars that qualify for these rebates are most popular in the Washington DC and California areas.

Folks at the dealership in Dickson City said those plug in vehicles are the cars of the future.

"I think it's the future. I think the future is plug ins. I think the future is hydrogen, and Toyota is really really big on the two projects right now," said Joe Ross, Toyota Scion of Scranton Sales Director.

The DEP has about 150 more of these rebates up for grabs.
