MAHONING TOWNSHIP--While many people rang in 2015 with noisemakers and champagne, one family from Selinsgrove celebrated with the birth of their first child.
With her pretty pink headband and white fuzzy boots, Ricki Noel Newman is already being referred to by her parents as their little diva. The cutie was born at 2:19 New Year's morning, making her the first baby born in 2015 at Geisinger Medical Center near Danville .
"I think she'll like to see all of her gifts and everything like that. When she's older she'll understand that she was a big deal," Ashley said.
Parents Ashley and Dave Newman of Selinsgrove say Ricki's name has special meaning to the family.
"She's named after my dad. His name was Ricky and he passed away when I was 14. Noel means Christmas Child because she was supposed to be born on December 24th," Ashley said.
Ashley and Dave say their first child enjoys Bon Jovi lullabies and getting her hair washed. Dad says Ricki already has more clothes than he does!
"Getting used to all the pink and the little mermaids and my house is like a Disney adventure now but I'm really excited for her," Dave said.
Ricki's parents say having the New Year's baby is extra special because her mom was born on Labor Day and her grandmother was born on the 4th of July.
"And now we have a new year's baby," Ashley said.
"It was really exciting to have the ball drop and the fireworks and then get her," Dave said.
Ricki Noel Newman was born at seven pounds, 10 ounces and 20 inches.
