SUNBURY--People who live on North 8th Street in Sunbury say they are on edge after one of their neighbors' homes was burglarized earlier this week.

"We live right here, really close to it and it could happen to our home as well so it's very unnerving," Stacie Strausser said.

"We have a little boy who is nine months old so it is definitely a little bit nerve-wracking," Josh Hostetler said.

Sunbury police say the thief got away with a gun and a computer.

"While they were all at home sleeping so that's kind-of alarming for us," Chief Brad Hare said.

Police Chief Brad Hare says this is one of five break-ins in Sunbury over the past few weeks. He says they appear to be random.

"It's not in one general area, it's spread out throughout the whole city," Hare said.

Chief Hare says he is especially concerned with this latest rash of burglaries because a Sunbury police officer was recently laid off.

"We're doing the best we can with what we have so we will continue to do what we need to do to try to stay on top of this," Hare said.

Chief Hare is advising people to be aware of their surroundings, keep their lights on and their doors locked. Stacie Strausser says she is already doing that.

"My husband's always like, make sure the door is locked at all times. Makes my kids fearful," Strausser said.

If you have information on any of these crimes you are asked to contact Sunbury police.
