LEHIGHTON -- The death of an infant in Carbon County has now led to charges against the baby's mother.
On Tuesday, state police charged Tory Schlier, 20, of Lehighton with involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of children. She is locked up in Carbon County.
The investigation began on October 17 when six-week-old Brayden Cummings was found dead at a home on North 7th Street in Lehighton. An autopsy showed that someone had rolled onto him while he slept, and his death was ruled a homicide.
According to court papers, Schlier admitted that she had fallen asleep with the child in bed. Blood tests later showed that Schlier had taken amphetamine, methamphetamine and Xanax. She admitted being "fuzzy" when she put the baby in bed with her and fell asleep.
