HANOVER TOWNSHIP -- A Luzerne County day care center is taking security measures to a new level after multiple break-ins in the past week.

Police in Hanover Township continue their search for the person or persons that broke into the Schoolhouse day care center three times over the past week.

It's a new day at the Schoolhouse day care center. There are brand new locks on the doors, brand new locks on the windows, and new camera equipment coming, too. After the day care center was burglarized.

"In 34 years, this is the first time we had a break-in, but it wasn't one break-in, it was three break-ins in the same week," said owner David DeFine.

All three burglaries took place overnight, the first last Monday, then last Tuesday, and finally last Friday. When it was all said in done, about $1,200 was stolen over the course of those three nights and the owner says he firmly believes it was the same culprit those three times.

"They only go to one location. They only go to the administration office. They knew there was money in there at one time and they're returning to see if there's money again. They were unsuccessful the third time and we believe this won't happen again for another 34 years," DeFine said.

According to the owner, for each break in, the burglar came in through the window. In some cases, having to rip out an air conditioner to do it.

"Obviously it's scary if you have a break-in anywhere," said Nicole Alba of Wilkes-Barre.

Alba is a teacher at the day care and she's also the parent of four kids that go there. Even after the burglar broke in through her classroom window, she says she's not worried about the future safety of the center, but she is perplexed why someone would do this to a day care center.

"I have no idea. It makes no sense. And when I tell people about it, people ask, 'What are they going to get from a day care?' It's sad. It's sad for the kids really. Who's it going to affect besides the kids?" Alba said.

The owner says with the new video security system, he'll be able to monitor and record what's going from just looking at his phone.

If you have any information on these burglaries, you're asked to called Hanover Township police.
