NEWPORT TOWNSHIP -- A firefighter and an elderly woman were taken to the hospital after a fire in Luzerne County.
Authorities said it broke out at the house on West Enterprise Street in Glen Lyon around 4 p.m. Monday.
Flames burned through the roof causing extensive damage to the place.
One person told Newswatch 16 he helped rescue the elderly woman.
"Kinda scary. There was smoke, you can feel the heat. You can hear the crackling of wood upstairs. We were actually underneath where the fire was burning getting her out and her pets," said neighbor Harry Newhart.
The firefighter and the woman are expected to be okay.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
