JENKINS TOWNSHIP -- Things in an otherwise quiet neighborhood in Luzerne County are about to get very loud.

Two concrete silos are scheduled to be imploded near Pittston on Monday.

Matt Shugdins has lived on Whispering Way in Jenkins Township for a little more than a year and like the street's name, there's a peacefulness about the area.

"The neighborhood is almost perfect," said Shugdins. "It's pretty quiet. There's a lot of natural stuff going on."

There's nothing natural about what's scheduled to happen on Monday. Two concrete silos in the neighboring Interstate Distribution Center are slated for demolition.

"Kind of an eye sore for the area just due to the fact that the industry isn't there anymore," added Shugdins.

The silos were used to store sand for Techneglas, a company that made the glass monitors for televisions. Techneglas closed their Luzerne County facility back in 2004.

"In the summer, we don't see it a lot cause of the trees but in the winter we see it a lot," said Jim Feehan, who also lives on Whispering Way.

Greg Parrs said he remembers another instance where there was a demolition at site several years ago and it shook his house.

"You just kind of hear the ground shake," he added.

As a result, some neighbors like Feehan and Shugdins, who can clearly see the silos from their homes, took videos of their homes' foundations in case there are any cracks that happen because of the blast.

"It'll be nice to see them go down but I don't know what the effects will be as far as our property and the vibrations or how it might affect the cement around here but it'll be interesting to see," said Feehan.

The Department of Environmental Protection is asking people to not go to the industrial park during the blasting as part of a safety precaution.

They added to not be alarmed if a large boom is heard. The implosion is scheduled to happen at around 9 a.m. on Monday.
