More than 1,000 of these new radios will soon be distributed to all the volunteer fire companies in Schuylkill County.

It's part of a $5 million dollar project to upgrade the county's communication system among police, EMS, and fire departments.

Most of the $5 million dollars budgeted for the project will pay for 1,140 radios.

The Schuylkill County volunteer firefighters association will determine where the equipment is distributed, including some of the radios going to police and ems agencies that have already updated their frequencies.

The County entered a 7 year lease with Motorola Solutions INC., the company that makes the radios.

The first payment is scheduled for 2017.

Officials said the new radios will eliminate "dead spots" in the county, keeping first responders and those in need connected.

The county hopes all the radios will be in use by the end of 2015.
