JERSEY SHORE -- This time of year can be especially difficult for families who have lost a loved one.

A group of women in Lycoming County hope to bring some light to those grieving this holiday season.

Some of the names written on bags are in honor of veterans, others in memory of loved ones.

There are boxes filled with those bags and candles inside Barbara Schmouder's garage on Lincoln Street in Jersey Shore.

"It's our biggest year. We have over 500 luminaries to put out there," she said.

The candles will be lit Christmas Eve during the seventh annual Lights of Love Luminary organized by the Jersey Shore Business and Professional Women's Club.

"It's just a glow of lights and the smell is absolutely wonderful because it's the sweetest smelling block in Jersey Shore."

Every Christmas Eve they light the candles at the veterans park in Jersey Shore. It's a special tribute that some families say is especially moving this time of year."

"You're doing something for them and you are passing the time although they are not with you," said Richard Swank. "And it's really enlightening to do that."

The luminaries which were donated by club members cost $5 each. This year Lights of Love has raised more than $2,000.

"When you're lighting those candles and you know that it's somebody that has passed or somebody that you know real well, you get a funny, fuzzy feeling inside."

"It's really a sight to see on Christmas Eve."

Schmouder says people can still buy a luminary on Christmas Eve at the event. The women's club plans to split the proceeds between the YMCA and the library in Jersey Shore.
