DICKSON CITY -- After a fire destroyed the Shelesky family home in Dickson City, neighbors and complete strangers are helping a family that lost everything.

With a few days until Christmas, people in the community came to the Dickson City Fire Department to help raise money for the family and try to salvage what's left of Christmas.

"We have people coming in truckloads with things they're offering to the family," said Lori Killino, organizer.

Tony Shelesky has lived in the area his entire life and now he, along with his two children and his mother, are without a home.

His daughter said she still can't believe what it was like coming home from school, without a home to return to.

"It was really shocking," said Samantha Shalesky. "It's not something you expect to come home from school to have, you don't have a house anymore. It was a little crazy."

Members of the community said this isn't the first time tragedy has struck the Sheleskys around a holiday.

No matter how many times they're knocked down, the community will help pick them back up.

"It's really important because three years ago, right before Easter, they lost their mother," said James Devoe, organizer. "So this is another tragedy right before a holiday. It's very important to have this show no matter what happens to them, a lot of people love them."

"This is incredible," said Tony Shelesky. "We live in the best part of the world. Everyone has been behind us 100 percent."

Organizers said roughly they served 900 people at the fundraiser.

The next step for the family is to try to rebuild their home and get things back to normal.

They plan on spending Christmas with other relatives in the area.
