SCRANTON -- We've all been there and done that. While getting in your car, you suddenly see a scratch you've never seen before. You wonder, 'How did that get there?'

The maker of a product called Erase A Scratch claims it will make those ugly scratches on your car disappear for good.

It's simple to use and doesn't require costly chemicals or buffers. It promises to work in minutes. But, does it really work?

To get the answer, we went to Motorworld Auto Body Shop on Providence Road in Scranton. The pros here know a lot about repairing scratches, dings, dents and mangled messes.

We asked the crew to make a few scratches on a vehicle. Then, we read the instructions and begin.

The pen comes with two tips. You press down on the pen to make the tip wet. Once the tip is wet and the surface of the scratch is clean, you can apply it.

What we find is that after we wipe the liquid off, the scratch comes right back. If we don't wipe it off and leave it on, it does hide the scratch better. However, the liquid runs down the car and you see that as well. So, you have to wipe it off. That's what the directions say you have to do.

After trying it on a half dozen scratches, the crew at Motorworld Auto Body gives Erase A Scratch thumbs down.
