BARRETT TOWNSHIP -- A high school senior in Monroe County is bringing some extra special holiday cheer to his family and his community.

The 17 year old said he decided to go big with the Christmas decorations after his sister was diagnosed with cancer.

Streaming holiday music is just one attraction among many that folks can take in at the Faler home in Cresco.

The Christmas display contains 7,000 lights, 90 lollipops that run 500 feet around the yard, a Nativity set with a wooden manger, and many famous characters from popular holiday movies.

It was all created by Jack Faler, a high school senior at Pocono Mountain East.

“I've always liked Christmas since I was young and I've always wanted to do this,” said Faler.

But this isn't just a Christmas dream come true.

He did all this for big sister Debbie, who was diagnosed with cancer in February.

“I thought about everything I`d had to go through, cut my hair, shave my hair, and that was another hard thing, but I got through it,” said Debbie.

Not only did Jack buy everything using money he earned at his after school job, he also built most of the displays using saws and plywood.

“I didn't think it was all going to come together with getting it all painted and finished and the lollipops out and shortage of supplies,” said Jack.

And then the Falers found their neighborhood in the middle of the manhunt for alleged cop killer Eric Frein here in Barrett Township.

“I was scared that I wasn't going to get it all done because it was always dark the only time I would be able to do this and of course my mom wanted me to be inside when it was dark because you can't see anything,” said Jack.

Frein was captured just before Halloween and the house was decorated in time to dedicate it to Debbie on Thanksgiving Day.

"Did you think he was crazy, doing this?"

“Yeah, especially because he put all his money towards it. You think at 17 there`s other stuff you want to buy rather than Christmas decorations,” said Debbie.

But Jack says this is holiday gift for the community as well.

“Hopefully it makes them happy and makes them think about not the stressful things that we went through, not being able to go out and feel safe on the streets, but now you can with all the lights,” said Jack.

Debbie says after months of treatment, she is now cancer free.

You can find the holiday display in Cresco on the corner of High Road and Low Court.
