MOUNT POCONO -- Christmas came early for some folks in the Poconos who had holiday gifts on layaway. Mount Airy Casino Resort decided to pay for the items.

Monday was the last day Wal-Mart layaway customers had the chance to pick up their items before they would get re-stocked.

And for some, Mount Airy Casino's donation made all the difference.

Long lines at Christmastime are a familiar sight. But at Wal-Mart in Mount Pocono, some Christmas magic was waiting at the register for these layaway customers.

Marie McFaddin was there to pick up a PlayStation Four, a gift for her nephews.

"When they told me what they wanted I really couldn't afford to get it, so each week I was trying to pay a little by little on it, but I was saying wow Christmas is next week I could not do this," said McFaddin.

She planned to pay the $328 dollar balance with her electric bill money.

Instead, she found out Mount Airy Casino Resort was paying off her balance and other layaways to the tune off $5,000 dollars.

"I'm so thankful, thank you, thank you," said McFaddin.

A Christmastime jackpot.

"Everyone, thank you so much, Merry Christmas," said McFaddin.

Customers were surprised, shocked, and brought to tears by Mount Airy's generosity.

Lori Hartford wiped her eyes. She had planned to plead with Wal-Mart to extend her layaway a few more days until she could pay.

"I couldn't believe it. I've never had anything like this happen before so it just about made my day," said Hartford from Mount Pocono.

Hartford called her family and now her 5 year old will have Frozen toys, Disney DVDs and lots of joy under the tree.

One woman actually left Wal-Mart's layaway department unable to pay her bill, but she got a phone call to come back and quite a surprise when she returned.

"I thought real quick how miracles do happen, but they don't happen to me, so I had an idea, but I wasn't sure," said Adina Melengez of Blakeslee.

Melengez had to leave her $250 dollars' worth of gifts to pay for gas and food instead. Now thanks to Mount Airy's Christmas magic, her two and three year old will have presents waiting under the tree.

"To think that I'm good enough for something like this it was cool, it was really cool," said Melengez.
