Seniors Mariah Maciejewski and Jill Korgeski work on low post moves while the mid-range game of Kayleigh Semion improves-hitting shot after shot after shot. These are the tri-captains for head coach Ben O'Brien.
"We're fortunate that we have a really talented group of kids that are fun to coach. They had a lot of success last year, unfortunately their success last year is not going to help us get any rebounds this year or get any defensive stops when we need them. It's a brand new year. We're really excited. We have great players to work with and the players are excited to start," said Ben O'Brien.
"Definitely last year going for such a long run was an important part for our team, because we all matured individually and as a team that could be a vital part for a successful season this year," said Jill Korgeski.
"I played AAU we did summer leagues all summer and we played games. We just want to try to get better after every game and practice," said Mariah Maciejewski.
Not too many teams can say they have a sophomore point guard returning that played in all 30 games a year ago as a freshman. The Lady Bucks have that in Maddie Martin and coach Ben O'Brien is expecting big things from her.
"She had an outstanding year last year and I expect her to have another outstanding year. She's a great kid and a really hard worker-great student so I am looking forward to seeing her this year," again said Ben.
Just up the road still in the borough of Dunmore is Barry Fitzgerald's Holy Cross girl's team led by seniors Gabby Giordano and Olivia Kosin. Expectations are high for last year's district runner-ups.
"We're excited about the start of the year. We have four starters back from last year. We have a good group of upperclassmen and we have some freshman who have worked their way into the mix," said Barry Fitzgerald.
"Where do you think you need to improve? Where do you think this team has improved? A lot of little things like free throws, missed lay-ups, missed rotation on defense. That's what hurt us last year," said Gabby Giordano.
"We've been working so hard in practice-like I said coach has been pushing so hard just for us to get better. I definitely see that. We definitely improved so much like every one of us," said Olivia Kosin.
