MOUNT POCONO -- Plow and salt trucks, side by side, made a pass on Route 940 at Mount Pocono, getting rid of the morning's accumulation.

At 2,000 feet above sea level, Mount Pocono saw it all Tuesday morning. The precipitation began early, well before sunrise, as a mist that froze when it touched the pavement and trees. That was followed by sleet and snow, and finally rain. It left a slushy inch on the ground.

The snow and ice, coupled with more wintry weather in the forecast prompted districts in Monroe County like Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg, and Pocono Mountain to cancel classes.

Kids and buses stayed off the roads, but snow plows were on, and in parking lots, getting those lots safe for shoppers and diners.

And, there was more early morning activity. A fast food worker left some bacon and eggs behind, trading in the spatulas and flippers for a snow shovel, packets of salt replaced by a bucket.

After the sun came up, the precipitation in Mount Pocono turned to rain. People were getting through and getting by, but that is forecast to change by the end of the day, when the snow returns.
