HERRICK TOWNSHIP -- From a distance you can see that snowmaking is in full swing at Elk Mountain.

On the slopes skiers and snowboarders were loving the conditions.

"Its been a real rollercoaster. We had rain early and then it got cold and then rainy again. It has been very crazy, very hectic trying to run a ski area. Our staff has done a really great job. The snow makers and especially the groomers," Gregg Confer, Elk Mountain general manager said.

Confer says he's happy to see several inches of snow is in the forecast for this part of Susquehanna County.

"If we get 5-8 inches of snow, that's what they're predicting that we're going to get by Wednesday...that would make a big difference for us," Confer said.

You can see here Elk Mountain is really taking advantage of these colder temperatures.

Not only are they making snow right now, but they're also hoping mother nature provides a little extra help this week.

"It means 24 hour snowmaking for us and that's something that we've been looking forward to. We've been making snow, but not really around the clock because its been warmer during the day but this week looks really good," Confer said.

For skiers and snowboarders, hearing there's more snow in the forecast is good news.

"So lets see, I understand a couple more inches the day after tomorrow which will make it nicer," Luke Fischer of Florida said.

"Better riding conditions, more trails open. More people come out you get to meet new people make new friends," Seamus Clark of Binghamton said.

Right now the resort near Union Dale has 9 slopes open.

If the weather cooperates they hope to have all 27 slopes open by Christmas.
