LACKA HOUSE EXPLOSION

DUNMORE -- Almost 40 people were displaced because of a house explosion. One family three buildings down had quite the family to move.

Regina Price remembered vividly what it was like waking up to the smell of gas in her home.

"When the fireman knocked on the door, they said, 'You have to get out. It's not safe. The first floor apartment is filled with gas.'"

She woke up her husband and children.

"I said, 'We gotta go. We have to get the babies and go.' And I wasn't just talking about our kids, I was talking about the nine puppies my Sammie just had," said Price.

Her dog Samantha had nine puppies on Tuesday night. Now at a time when the mother is supposed to be resting with her pups, Regina had to scramble to get them all out.

"I found a bucket and threw some blankets in it and put the puppies in. I knew she was going to follow. It wasn't going to be a problem getting her out with the puppies. And I just found a warm blanket and threw it on top."

They tried to get in their car, but that was too close to the explosion, so they had to get on a bus and get out. 11-year-old Robert says he'll never forget watching the explosion happen.

"It was frightening. It was a big boom and after that, just flames."

When the family was finally allowed to go to their home, they found their car covered in soot and ash from the explosion.

The puppies are safe at a nearby shelter for now. The family says they're doing well, just very tired.

"I didn't expect for anything like that to ever happen where I live, but it did and I got everybody out."

The family says once everything settles down and they're able to return home, eventually they plan to find new homes for all those puppies.
