WILKES-BARRE – Several Luzerne County employees and one county council member told Newswatch 16 that an employee was fired this morning because of a “human error” that delayed paychecks.
More than 1,200 county employees expected to see their paychecks directly deposited in their bank accounts Friday morning, but officials said an employee who was supposed to approve the paperwork was not at work.
Some workers received their pay late Friday or on Saturday, but others did not receive their direct deposit until this morning.
Despite numerous emails and visits to the Luzerne County manager’s office, officials would not confirm the name of the employee fired or say how the county will fulfill the promise to pay employee overdraft or late fees.
