LIBERTY TOWNSHIP -- Now that Thanksgiving is over, many people are turning their attention to Christmas.

A Christmas tree farm owner in Montour County says it was a busy weekend, and on Monday Newswatch 16 found some more people buying trees.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Kohl's Stony Hill Tree Farm near Danville. The Read family of Riverside says it is a tradition to cut down a tree here. This year, five-year-old Reagan picked out the family tree.

"We love doing this every year and now with our little one, this is special," Missy Read said.

The owner of the farm, Stan Kohl, says it was a busy weekend for people buying Christmas trees. He says they sold hundreds of them.

At the Christmas tree auction last month near Mifflinburg, vendors said tree prices were going up. They blamed the weather on the east coast for a smaller supply of trees. Kohl says that is not the case at his farm.

"We've had the same prices for at least the last five years. We try to keep them where people can still afford them," Kohl said.

Kohl says Frazier Firs do not grow as well on his farm so he bought many of them at the auction near Mifflinburg. He says he paid more for them this year than he did for them last year.

"Last year they were one third of what they were this year so definitely a big difference. But your prices supplement? We didn't change ours, no. We'll take a little bit less in the end," Kohl said.

Kohl also says this year's Christmas tree crop on his farm is good. Because of a decent amount of rain over the summer. That is good news for this family of five from Danville. They say cutting down their Christmas tree is a December 1st tradition.

"Every year we go out, usually to a local place and cut down a tree for our girls," Tonyia Wilson said.

"It's a big day where we go cut down the tree and then go home and decorate it this afternoon. Put the Christmas lights up and stuff too today," Jason Williams said.

In addition to Christmas trees, people also bought wreaths and ornaments at the farm's store.
