MONROE COUNTY -- Bob Nothstein of Paradise Valley has his family coming in from all over for Thanksgiving. The problem is that this year, he has been without power since 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

"It's amazing what you rely on for electric power," says Nothstein. "Basically we can't cook a turkey cause we have an oven that's electric based."

Nothstein is just one of hundreds across Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania dealing without power. For many, they're able to use generators, but that's not the case for Nothstein and his family. They've got a wood stove warming up the house, and candles and lanterns when they need it. Bob's 16-year-old daughter, Jesse, said right now, all they can do is wait - and the waiting is killing her.

"I read for a little bit and looked at things but you can only do that for so much time before you get really bored," she said.

Electric workers said the wet and heavy snow caused most of the problems for power lines.

"All these trees are collecting snow and falling down and tearing the lines down," said Mike Morin, PPL Electric.

Crews worked all day Wednesday and most of Thanksgiving, trying to fix downed lines. Because like the families they service, they realize how important it is to have a Thanksgiving dinner.

"Everybody wants all their food done so its our main job to get everyone back in power so they can have their turkey dinner," Morin added.
