DICKSON CITY -- The passing of time seems to stop each Thanksgiving morning at Polonia Park in Dickson City.

A group of boys who grew up in Scranton are now men, but their habits on this day haven't changed.

"We started probably around 10 or 12, and we've played ever since really. I don't think we've missed a year, I'm 42 now," said Paul Walsh of Scranton.

For 30 years now with no interruption, all they need is a time, a place, a football, and some cones. They play and it's like no time has passed at all.

They call it the "Turkey Bowl." They keep score but, as they put it, that doesn't really matter as long as everyone's there.

"We're definitely all in different places, our mindsets a little bit different. We all have kids of our own and everything like that. And we're not quite as physical as we used to be, we graduated from tackle down to flag," said Jake Holmes of Throop.

The forecast for this Thanksgiving didn't turn them off, either.

"It's fun, plus an old guy like me, it's not as bad when I fall," Walsh joked.

Their kids play now too.

Some of them are the same age as their dads were when this all started. They hope it's a tradition that will be passed down to the next generation.

"We look forward to this and then we look forward to having dinner with our families, it's part of the tradition," Walsh added.
