TAMAQUA --  The Pennsylvania Game Commission is investigating a shooting near the Tamaqua Area High School on Tuesday.

Officials believe two teens were shot with a .270 caliber hunting rifle around 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said it happened in a wooded area off of Green Street in the borough near Tamaqua Area High School.

When our crews arrived officers with the game commission were seen talking with people including a man dressed in hunting gear.

Authorities say a 54-year-old male hunter from Tamaqua told them he was target practicing in the woods, when one bullet hit two teens, a male and female.

The game commission says the 14-year-old female was shot in the knee and the 14-year-old male was hit in the stomach. Both teens are recovering at hospitals in the Lehigh Valley and both are in critical condition.

The game commission continues to investigate, but said that charges against the hunter are likely.
