SUNBURY -- In just three days, hundreds of people will gather in Sunbury for an annual Thanksgiving dinner started by a woman from Beaver Springs.

The woman needs your help to finish all the trimmings and make the dinner a success.

Rhonda Fisher of Beaver Springs and one of her volunteers spent part of the afternoon unloading cookies, plates, and canned goods from her car. They dropped off the goodies at Special Occasions on South Second Street in Sunbury where Fisher will host her 16th annual Thanksgiving dinner.

"There's no rich or poor, race or anything here. We're all one big happy family this day," Fisher said.

Fisher and her volunteers have hosted the Thanksgiving dinner in Sunbury for the past 15 years. Volunteers prepare 40 hams and 40 turkeys for the event, along with mounds of stuffing, desserts and all the trimmings. Last year they served almost 700 meals, but Fisher says this year she is having a hard time putting the event together.

"I know that I've said that over the last couple of years that it's been difficult trying to pull together, but this year has definitely been the most challenging."

She says the biggest things she needs right now are monetary donations, ovens and people to cook the hams.

"Just know that we will be here. We will be here to help these people out."

Someone who attends the dinner every year and also volunteers his time is Dean Benfer of Sunbury.

"There's a lot of people who don't have food and stuff, and they all come down here for Thanksgiving and stuff."

The event starts at 8 a.m. on Thanksgiving with a continental breakfast. If you are able to help, contact Rhonda at 570-658-2634.
