WILKES-BARRE -- More volunteers and a bit of holiday magic, organizers say that's what they need to make sure 4,000 kids from struggling families in Luzerne County will get gifts on Christmas morning.

Volunteers and a youth wrestling team took time to wrap gifts for kids they may never meet in Luzerne County.

They're helping the Valley Santa program inside Boscov's on South Main Street in Wilkes-Barre.

"With all of the government cutbacks the last few years, there's just been a much greater need in the community. Valley Santa has worked hard to try to take up that slack," said Help Line director Tom Foley.

Foley says the holidays are a difficult time for many families, both emotionally and financially.

This is the 31st year for the Valley Santa progam. Organizers expect more than 4,000 letters to come in from throughout the Wyoming Valley this year asking for help getting gifts under the Christmas tree."

"There's plenty of people on full employment that need our help nowadays, we're seeing that more in the letters," said Valley Santa board member Joseph Borland.

Borland says volunteers and donations are still needed to make sure each child who writes gets a new gift on Christmas morning.
